Prevent Child Abuse Athens is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to preventing child abuse in all of its forms through education, support and public awareness. We serve families in Clarke, Jackson, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties.
Prevent Child Abuse Athens has served the Athens area since 1986, beginning as an all-volunteer group emphasizing parenting classes and community education. In 1992 two part-time staff were hired -- a Director and a First Steps Coordinator. The Healthy Families program began in 1995. Today, the organization includes a 22-member Board of Directors, 17 paid staff members, and many trained volunteers. Prevent Child Abuse Athens serves over 5,000 individuals each year.
Prevent Child Abuse Athens is funded by state and local grants, foundations, and individual and business donors. Primary supporters include the Department of Human Resources/Department of Family and Children Services, United Way of NE Georgia, the UGA Kappa Delta Sorority, the Turner Family Foundation and the Jackson EMC Foundation. Our expected 2015-16 income is approximately $720,000 of which fully 88% goes directly to program services for children and families.
In 2015, "Starry, Starry Night", our annual dinner and auction, raised over $60,000, We hope to top that in 2016 at the 25th anniversary of this event - Athens' best fundraising party!
Prevent Child Abuse Athens relies on donations from individuals and businesses in our 5-county area. Donations are tax-deductible and are always welcomed!
